New Years Resolutions!! So this blog can hold me to them. Or something.
1. Read my Bible every day. I'm aiming to try and read it through in a year, which means four chapters a day, I believe. I really want to shift my focus outside of myself and pay attention to how God would want me to live, how he wants me to interact with the people around me. I also want to be able to say with conviction that I am a Christian, so that people can see that there is more to Christianity than haters, homophobes, extremists, and those-who-commit-crime-in-the-name-of-God make it out to be.
2. Write something every day. That's a large part of the purpose of this blog--to drive me to write more. I am an English major after all, as well as an aspiring novelist. My biggest roadblock, however, is my tendency to get caught up in busyness and life, never getting around to actually writing. Ideally, writing every day will also help me to think more, to maybe develop a stronger focus in my lately ADHD life.
3. Narrow or eradicate the gap between who I am at home and who I am away at college. There are things that are better about me at home, and things that are better about me at school. During my freshman year, I found myself developing two distinct personalities for the two settings; I want to try and be the same person to all those around me. I want to maintain my generally more optimistic outlook and attitude that I have at school, even when I visit home and deal with family. I also want to make sure that the morals and standards I have been raised with are not eradicated in a college environment. I want to be consistent and honest about who I am, and to work in both settings towards improving myself.
4. Manage my time better. Figure out what really matters to me, what I
really want to focus on. If I want to get a part-time job or do more
volunteer work, I'm going to need to cut back on gaming, social
networking, etc. If I want to spend a lot of time roleplaying
(considering going up to 3 tabletop roleplay games this semester), I'm
going to need to make sure I get homework done early so I'll have time
to devote chunks of my evenings to such things. I need to make sure I
make time to fulfill my first two resolutions. And so on.
5. Lose about 5 pounds. My target weight is 110-115, and I've been stuck at 115-120 for at least a year. This is sort of the face of my general resolution to live a healthier lifestyle--maintaining a regular sleep schedule, eating properly, exercising, generally taking care of myself. I used to think my health is just my business, but I've lately begun to discover that it affects others around me as well, so I want to take that responsibility seriously.
Those are sort of all-year changes. I also have a few goals...
1. Figure out my plans for the summer. Will I be staying in Tulsa or going home to California? Will I do summer school, get a job, or travel? This is largely tied to...
2. Actively search for summer work opportunities. I would like to try and get some teaching experience over the summers, if possible, especially if it is not possible to complete an education major in my shortened time for it.
3. Find out exactly how many credits I need for a double major in English and education, exactly what classes will be required, and whether it will be possible to complete the double major if I take summer classes or an extra semester-year.
4. Catch up on APO officer duties. I'm a bit behind.
